Cities are spaces shaped by the non-material as much as the physical. This talk leaps off from these in-between, non-physical encounters. Cristiano Luchetti contends with the increasingly complex urban textures of cities, complexities which demand an alternative to classic morphological analysis. Instead, he endorses a holistic approach comprising social modes and less immediately tangible perceptive features.
As an active example of one such approach, Jonny Farrow presents Soft Power and Sous Les Pavés la Plage. Both works posit the sound of the city as an alternative poetics for art making, bringing to the fore listening, language, and psychogeography.
